Description: Mohawk Trail Regional School is a 7-12 middle/high school located in Shelburne Falls, MA. We
are looking for an experienced, dynamic, and innovative Assistant Principal to support our School Improvement
Plan and District Strategic Plan, and work and collaborate with our community in continuing to innovate and
refine programming that challenges, supports, and inspires our students.
Experience with Restorative Practices, supporting SEL initiatives & alternative programming would be
especially helpful.
Responsibilities:
Teaching and Learning
● To support the principal in ensuring that:
o All teachers design effective and rigorous standards-based units of instruction consisting of
well-structured lessons with measurable outcomes;
o All teachers use a variety of formal and informal methods and assessments to measure student
learning, growth, and understanding, and to make necessary adjustments to their practice when students are not learning; instructional practices in all settings reflect high expectations regarding content and quality of effort and work, engage all students, and are personalized to
accommodate diverse learning styles, needs, interests, and levels of readiness;
o Instruction is both differentiated and culturally responsive, and instructional time is used
effectively.
Operational:
● Serves as a support to the Principal in the overall administration of the school.
● Carries out administrative and supervisory duties assigned by the Principal and makes such decisions
necessary during the absence of the Principal.
● To support school leadership and staff in the effective collection and analysis of data to inform school
and district goals
● To be a participating member of school and district-wide leadership teams.
● To support the Principal in fostering a shared commitment to high standards in all aspects of the life and
work of the school and the students.
● Implements effective discipline and security policies.
● Assists the Principal in the preparation of all mandated state and federal reports.
● Attends, conducts, and/or supervises after-school and evening activities as directed.
● Assists the Principal with the preparation of the annual budget.
● Assists the Principal with the school-based council.
● Participates in the staff selection process.
Supervision and Evaluation:
● Provides strong and visible leadership for curriculum, instruction, and assessment of student
achievement. This is a most critical attribute. Instructional leadership is the priority.
● To provide effective and timely supervision and evaluation of staff in alignment with state regulations,
School Committee policy, and contract provisions.
School Environment:
● Supports IEP, 504, SST, and other meetings with teachers, other building and district professionals,
parents, and students.
● Supports the principal with the master schedule and the scheduling of all students.
● Responsible for school-wide schedule changes for events such as assemblies, school delays, lunch
changes, and school events.
● To develop positive, collaborative relationships with staff, students, families, and outside agencies that
are involved in the work of the school and its students.
● Practice clear, consistent, and collaborative communication among the administrative team, with staff
and students, and with the greater community.
● To support the development and maintenance of a positive, personalized, safe, and supportive school
environment.
● To support the development and implementation of effective plans, procedures, routines, and operational
systems to address the full range of safety, health, and emotional and social needs of students.
Qualifications:
● Licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as a
Principal/Assistant Principal
● Minimum of a Master’s Degree with graduate work in Educational Administration, Curriculum
Development, Supervision, and/or Evaluation preferred.
● Can demonstrate a minimum of five (5) years successful experience as a teacher. Such alternatives to the
above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
