Full time, benefited position

37.5 hours/ week

 

The Planning Director organizes and evaluates the Department of Planning and Development’s activities, including planning, code compliance, and permit processes. They develop strategic plans, manage staff through training and performance evaluations, and oversee resource allocation.

Key responsibilities include drafting ordinances, reviewing development plans, collaborating with boards on zoning enforcement, managing grant programs, and preparing the departmental budget. The director stays updated on community development trends and advises developers and landowners on zoning regulations.

A bachelor’s degree in Community Economic Development or a related field and eight years of relevant experience are required; a master’s degree and at least five years of public sector experience are preferred. The candidate must demonstrate a strong background in planning, economic development strategies, and leadership in municipal organizations, including budget and grant management.

Must successfully pass CORI/ SORI checks.  Must have a valid Class D Driver’s license.  Must have an acceptable driving record and be insurable under the city’s policy.  May be required to attend evening or weekend meetings.

 

Salary Range: NR6 $75,017.61 – $95,913.12
